The House of Representatives yesterday extensively debated prescribing punishment against employers of labour that default in paying salaries to their employees.

House Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila proposed a bill for the prohibition of late payment, non-payment and under payment of workers' wages and prescribed penalties for violations and for other matters.
Gbajabiamila, who lamented the problems associated with payment of salaries across the country argued those who indulge in the act had infringed on provisions of Sections 33, 34, 43 and 14 of the 1999 constitution as amended as it relates to right to life, right to dignity of human person, the right to acquire and own property and the responsibility of government to guarantee the security and welfare of the citizenry.
