Festus Adebayo, a housing expert and a television producer, has advised the federal government to demerge the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing for effective work and development.
Daily Post reports that Adebayo expressed his opinion while speaking with journalists on Tuesday, April 19, in Abuja.
He expressed assurance that if President Muhammadu Buhari separated housing from power and works, the economy of Nigeria would be better.
''Abuja Housing Show will like to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari, since he is working on how to get 10,000 megawatts, for the minister of power to concentrate on this and give Nigeria the power that we need.
''The president should please separate the Ministry of Housing from power because housing alone can drive the economy of Nigeria the same way the federal government wants to use agriculture.
“For every building you are constructing, you need at least eight different trades the bricklayers, the carpenters etc to be involved. Therefore, if the president separates housing from power and works, the economy of Nigeria will be better,” he concluded.
Adebayo added that he believed so much in the personality, competence and achievement of Babatunde Fashola. However, he noted that the minister should not be overburdened.
Meanwhile, Hon. Segun Odebunmi, a member of the House of Representatives, has recently criticized Fashola saying that the minister lacks the capacity to deliver on the mandate given to him.
Stressing that running three of the nation’s most critical sectors was not easy, he said: “Everybody needs power to survive even those at the grass root. I want to say that the man in charge of these ministries can never tap the resources by the end of this administration; he has no resources with which to tap the available resources to do so.
“Why can’t we give it to a professional in power to handle it? How it would happen is not important to Nigerians, what they want to see is light on the streets.''
