Fulani Attacks Averted In Nasarawa State

A reliable source reports that crisis between farmers and Fulani herdsmen was averted in Toto local government area of Nasarawa state following the poisoning of forage and water sources that led to the death of over 150 cattle.
Mohammed Musa, the local government chairman, convened an emergency security meeting after a security report that Fulani were mobilizing their kinsmen to avenge the killing of their livestock.
Musa maintained that farmers also accused herdsmen of deliberately destroying their farm produce and appealed to both sides to sheath their swords and give peace a chances.
He noted that government would not spare any individual or group who takes the law into their hands.
He stated that two committees have been constituted comprising farmers, herdsmen, traditional and religious leaders with a view to sensitizing their subjects on the need to give peace a chance.
The issues that topped discussion include rape and armed robbery blamed on Fulani youths.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to end the killing of Nigerians by herdsmen, the federal government has revealed plans to grass up over 50,000 hectares of land across the northern belt within the next six months.
