Niger Delta University Shut Down Indefinitely

The management of Niger Delta University on February 17 shut down the institution indefinitely. The institution was shut down after protest by some 200 Level Engineering students became violent in the school on February 16.
This happened as a result of a newly implemented law in the faculty. The law states that any student that fails the 3 Core Engineering courses will withdraw from the faculty. After the implementation of the law, over 20 final year engineering students were affected and asked to leave the faculty and start in their 200 level.
The rate of violence in the country’s tertiary institutions call for concern among stakeholders. These violence is not unconnected with the increasing rate of cult activities in our campuses, which grant students easy access to guns and other dangerous weapons.
Alos students of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) last week defied the institution’s order to vacate the institution’s Yaba, Lagos campus over the death of their final year colleague on Wednesday, February 10.
Recently, two undergraduates of Ebonyi State University were arrested by security operatives after they allegedly murdered one Mrs Stella Uhuo who just returned from the United States. The suspects allegedly beat the woman to death days after she returned from her vacation.
