Premium Times reported that there is a manhunt to get the former anti-graft czar to accept the offer by prominent chieftains of the party. It was learnt that at a meeting of the national caucus of the PDPD is ongoing in Abuja, after a National Executive Committee will meet at the party national secretariat today, February 16.
The ex-EFCC chief was last year tipped for the chairmanship position following the resignation of Ahmadu Mu’azu from office. But the move, it was further learnt, was thwarted by the National Working Committee of the party under the watch of its interim leadership headed by Uche Secondus.
Though, Ribadu had earlier agreed to take the offer, but abandoned it due to seemly lack of seriousness to truly reform the party by its top chieftains. After the crisis that rocked the party following a High Court order initiated by a former political adviser to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan Ahmed Gulak and the eventual self-declaration by Gulak as the chairman of the party, the PDP agreed to hold a special NEC meeting to fill the position created by the resignation of Mu’azu.
PDP stalwarts have been persuading Ribadu in a last-minute effort to get him change his stance. He has, however, said to have declined the offer.
A source said: “Since midnight yesterday, party chieftains led by a governor from the South-south region began a search for Ribadu, to no avail. “The ex-EFCC chair was said to have gone incommunicado since last night, making all attempts to reach him impossible.” The source added that about four governors and other chieftains are waiting at the Bayelsa Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, making frantic effort to reach Ribadu. He further said that Ribadu is unlikely to take the job due to the battered image of the party occasion by the current corruptions probes.
Premium Times further reports that call to his telephones did not go through and security guards at his residence said he was not around. The whereabouts of the former EFCC chairman is still unknown as at the time of filing this report.
