The dominant operator, MTN Nigeria has officially acquired Visafone, the only Coded Multiple Division Access (CMDA), network in the country.

There has been rumour since the second quarter of 2015 of the acquisition but it was finalised earlier yesterday.
MTN has however not asked Visafone to layoff staffs because no one will put any new staff through.
However, according to sources, there may be mass sack at the end of the day.
All efforts to reach the Corporate Communications Head, Joseph Usiagle proved abortive.
Prior to the acquisition, Visafone was founded by renowned banker and ICT philanthropist, Jim Ovia.
It has however grown its subscriber base to the fourth largest until muscling from GSM operators snuffed life out of others including Multi-Links and Starcoms.
