Two Women Arrested Over Sale Of Three-Month-Old Baby For N.3m

The police in Bayelsa State have arrested a young woman,Oyinkipreye Enoch, for allegedly selling her three-month old baby girl for the sum of N300,000.

The police also apprehended the buyer whose identity was given as Esther Tony.
It was gathered on Wednesday that Oyinkipreye was apprehended on Monday 25 January 2016 at Akenfa, a suburb of Yenagoa, the state capital, by detectives from the Akenfa Police Station.
Esther, 30, was said to have travelled from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to buy the tender infant from Oyinkipreye, 28, after they settled for the price of N300,000.
It was learnt that troubled started for Esther and Oyinkipreye when her husband returned from a trip and could not find the baby girl with her.When he asked for the whereabouts of the baby girl, Oyinkipreye was said to have claimed amid sobbing that their child died and was buried while he was away.
But luck was said to have ran out on her when a ‘Good Samaritan’ hinted her husband that she sold the baby away, leading to their arrest by the police.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa Command, Asinim Butswat, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the arrest of the two women.
“They are undergoing interrogation at the Akenfa Police Station,Yenagoa”, he said.
