Nigeria’s National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is embroiled in a battle with Guinness Plc over the brewer’s resort to court to stop $5.2 million fine imposed on it.
NAFDAC imposed the fine on the international brewer for its failure to adhere to the recommended good manufacturing practice procedures.

The fine, said the agency, serves “as administrative charges for various clandestine violations of NAFDAC rules, regulations and enactments over a long period of time”.
The agency also accused Guinness of revalidating expired products without its authorisation and supervision.
The company was also accused of not securing the gate of its warehouse leaving the raw materials used in the production of beer and non-alcoholic beverages by the firm permanently opened to intrusion and exposure to the elements and rodents, which “invariably affect the integrity of the raw materials”.
